It’s easy to get so excited about something new, but when the newness gets old and the challenges come, will you still have the same zeal and enthusiasm about it?
And even if you have the discipline and commitment to see things through, there are and will always be unavoidable circumstances that you will face along the way … realities of life that can break the strongest of men, and can make the most determined person quit.
Life is not easy.
As a Christian who has a personal relationship with God (I want to distinguish this from simply being religious), my faith that God loves me and has my best interest in mind has been my anchor. Yet, despite this faith, I still go through seasons of weariness … times when I ask God “why” … moments when I begin to doubt … days when I wonder if what I’m waiting for will even happen.
And then, out of the blue, a flicker of hope begins to shine.
Most of the time, it is through my time alone with God in the morning where in the middle of my prayer, I would just have that ‘light bulb’ moment. Other times it would be through a Scripture I’m reading; or some post on FB or IG that’s just so on-point with what I’m going through.
Then, I begin to remember. It pulls me back and sets me on track, ready to move forward once again.
This is what HOPE is about.
It is that ‘reminder’ … that ‘light bulb moment’ … that tug in your soul that tells you that it’s going to be okay.
HOPE is heaven’s way to cheer you on; to make you keep believing in yourself; and to make you finish the race.
HOPE revives your faith.
HOPE is a sign.
It’s like the blooming flowers in the spring and summer. You have faith that summer always comes because you have seen it over and over again. Faith is built when you know without a doubt that something will happen.
This is why my faith in God has grown over the years. He has proven time and time again who He is in my life. This is why I say that I have a personal relationship with Him. ‘Who He is’ in my life is not who others tell me He is, but who I have experienced Him to be.
Yet, even with this faith, I can still forget that He is the same God who will show up, until I see a sign.
During the winter, we forget how beautiful summer can be … until we hear the chirping of the birds, see the beautiful colors around us, and feel the warmth of the sun.
This is what HOPE is about.
We see those signs when we get so desperate to get out of our miserable situation. We feel it when we’ve reached our limit. We seek for it when we are sick and tired of the same old thing.
There will be no need for hope when things are doing well.
HOPE then comes through trials, which are the building blocks of our character.
HOPE is meant to keep us going, as we become better and better.
HOPE solidifies our faith, which gives us the strength to endure … until we reach the Finish Line.
And off to the next race.
Until we are living and breathing in this world, the race continues. This race is not one track, but a series of tracks that are supposed to lead us closer to our destination.
When we get sidetracked, HOPE is there to remind us. When we get weary, HOPE is there to cheer us on.
Those who are not determined to finish the race will not find HOPE.
