GET CLIENTS IN 3 EASY STEPS

October 30, 2020

Why are we even in business if we can’t get paying clients? What’s the point of all the hard work we do if there are no clients?

Having clients is what being in business is about, otherwise, we can’t call what we’re doing a business.

Anything you do that’s not making money is simply a hobby.

Getting clients shouldn’t be difficult if you do it the right way. You don’t need a complex process to finally get a sale, or engage in so many activities just to get your business out there.

What I’m going to teach you are old school principles that still work so well in this day and age. It’s just that not so many business coaches teach this. It’s nice to have some old-school touch to these modern times.

Step #1: FIND YOUR FIRST 5 CLIENTS.

This is all you need to start with. Instead of focusing on mass promotion, find your first 5.

Who are these first 5? These are your ideal clients. These are those who have an immediate need for what you’re offering, and those who have the money to pay for it.

Where do you find them?

Find out first who they are. This is what Target Niche is about. The narrower you can get, the easier it will be for you. When you know who they are, look for places where they gather.  ‘Facebook groups’ is a great place where you can find your niche. However, chances are you have your competitors there as well.  One thing that has really worked for me, that may or may not work for you is constant advertising and promotion, whether free or paid. Be very specific about your offer and focus on the problem that you’re solving.

Engagement is awesome, but it can eat up most of your time. And, it may bring you lots of followers, but not clients. When you promote on a daily basis, utilizing different platforms, people will find you.  Make your ads catchy, simple, direct to the point, and something that hits the heart.

When you have created a solid BRAND IDENTITY, creating ads will come easy.

The more you post, the more you will populate the search engines. I recommend posting once a day on a social media platform, so this means you can post several times a day using multiple platforms.  Utilize free listings like Yelp or Angie’s List. Even if you’re an online business, don’t forget your local community.  Utilize Google Business. This has worked a lot for me.  Use key words if the platform you’re using allows it. I’ve been doing this for years and clients find me when they search for my services. It has built up over the years, organically.

Step # 2 in getting clients is to be highly professional in your dealings with them.

True professionalism is far and few in between these days. I can honestly say this because it was so different years ago. I’ve been trained in old-school professionalism and I’ll tell you what it is.

Old school professionalism is:

  1. Answering your phone immediately when it rings. And when you can’t, make sure that you have a voicemail telling them what your business days and hours are, and that they leave a message, and that you’ll get back to them, and make sure that you do
  2. Responding to email
  3. inquiries as quickly as you can.
  4. Keeping your commitments. When you say you will call back, call back. When you say you’re going to finish a project in 5 days, you will.
  5. Looking at the person when you’re talking and being sincere about it.

I was at my bank one time and one of the tellers asked me “How’s your day going?” So I said, “Pretty good. And yours?” She said, “I’m good.” A minute later, she asked me the same question. She repeated it again when she handed me my receipt. Now that is a cliché professionalism that I see more often these days. People greet me but look away just when I’m about to say something.

Don’t be that person. This is the growing trend I’m seeing with the younger generation.
When you practice old-school professionalism, you will WOW your customers, and they will go back to you and refer people to you. Most of my clients in this business are from referrals from my clients.  And this is why I have 5 star reviews.

Step #3: PRODUCE EXCELLENT RESULTS

You can be the nicest person in the world, and even the most professional, but if your clients are not happy with your service, you will not only lose them but it will affect your credibility in business. Of course you can’t please everyone, but for the most part, your clients should be very pleased with the results.

If you’re a writer, excellent results means producing content that is remarkable.

If you’re a life coach, an excellent result means that you were able to help your client navigate through the process effectively.

If you’re a graphics designer, an excellent result means producing high quality design.

Excellent results come from a well-built structure and system for your business.  At the end of the day, an excellent result translates to achieving the objective of the client on why he or she even hired you.

Remember these steps:

1️⃣ Find your first 5.
2️⃣ Be highly professional.
3️⃣ Produce excellent results.

If you follow these, plus the tips I shared with you, you will be able to get clients more easily.
