The Power of Faith

May 17, 2020

Do you think that this pandemic is a hoax or do you believe it is real?

Do you feel that there is an exaggeration going on? Who really is telling the truth? Is it going to get better or worse?

Did I just stir you up?

Let me share with you what I see from the outside, looking in.

I think it was last year or the year before when I attended a networking meeting with a guest speaker who talked about the Herd Mentality. He presented a graph showing different periods in the history of America: the ups and downs of our economy. What's interesting about his report/presentation is that the triggers of the economic downhill was not so much the crisis in itself but how people felt about what's going on. Their own fears brought about its reality. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This is what I see. When people start panicking, they start hoarding. Look what happened to our toilet papers, sanitizers, and disinfectants. The supplies went down because people got scared. I hear people say that there's going to be food shortage. Heck yeah, there's going to be food shortage because people are hearing it, and so they will start hoarding again.

What I'm seeing is this same HERD MENTALITY over again. People are highly influenced by what they hear and see. And, it spreads like wildfire.

In my book, Simplify to Intensify, I mentioned the importance of objectivity as against reactivity.

I wrote:

We live in a highly reactive world where people are moved and dictated by their emotions. They speak their hearts out without weighing the consequences of their words, and make decisions out of their heightened reactivity. This kind of mindset and attitude attract negativity, including anger, bickering, arguments, and hatred, thwarting any attempt for effectiveness.

Objectivity is the opposite of reactivity, and something that our earthly nature is not accustomed to. It requires disciplining and training the mind.

To be objective is to let the brain process the information without letting emotions get in the way. It gives the brain the ability to see deeper, instead of simply looking at the surface.

Another thing I am seeing is this ...

"Where we place our faith in, is what we will believe."

If my faith is in the news I see on TV, then that is what I will believe. And what I believe will influence my thoughts, feelings, and actions.

I don't know about you but I believe in a God who is greater and higher than all these things we are going through. I am not talking about some religion but a real God who cares for me. As far as I know, this God wants the best for me and His plans for me are good. My faith is in Him, not what others are saying, even if those people believe in the same God I believe in. It is this faith in someone greater than everyone else that makes me see things from the outside. So, whether this pandemic is a hoax or not, it doesn't matter to me.

This is the power of faith.

With this, I want to encourage you to put your faith where you will bear good fruits, internally first, then externally ... a place where you will reap peace and joy. If what you're hearing outside is affecting you negatively, step back. You deserve peace of mind. You deserve good health.
